New product – VARIA, Rearview Radar for cyclists

Garmin Thailand announced Rearview Radar for cyclists – VARIA

Prices: 8,200 – 12,300 THB

We can see the tendency of increasing interest in health and fitness. And Garmin leads the way. The VARIA, introduced by Garmin on 23rd July, 2015 is another innovative tool for cyclists. Main function of Varia is to aware cyclists about upcoming car and remind to keep the line.

Is it a necessity for cyclists? Well, as all the electronics have their lovers and haters. People who use the Varia, like it and find it useful for the safety on roads. Some would say it’s another unnecessary piece of electronic. People who cycle will know if this device is of any help for them. Probably in a city environment, with constantly passing cars, it will not be of much use. But in the more country roads, or with less traffic, Varia may be of great help. Especially after hours of cycling where the attention skips the mind, Varia will alert you about the approaching car from up to 140 m, and remind you to keep your side of the road. How cool is that?

There are two versions:

  1. Tail light only – 8,200.- THB; USD 199.-
  2. Radar Bundle (tail light and head unit) – USD 299

Which one is right for me Tail Light Only or Bundle?
I suggest that having Tail Light only combine with some of the EDGE series (see below), would perform best in your training.

At the time of writing this, Varia is compatible with the following EDGE models:

  1. Edge® 1000 – 24,900 THB
  2. Edge® 25 – 6,690 THB
  3. Edge® 520 – 15,800 THB
